Roller Coaster Rides

Once upon a time, roller coasters were made on wood structures with metal tracks that added a sense of nostalgia and a propagation of tradition. If one has ridden this old rickety emitting sound of a relic from a time gone by, with the smell of popcorn, barkers and candy floss filling the air with Coney Island or the CNE serving as a scenery, one might understand that it was a rite of passage of sorts. It is this visceral backdrop, a part of time that captures a bygone era that sits in our collective romanticism, and nostalgia that taught us the tough lessons of the roller coaster of life.

Eventually, our adrenaline vied for more and we needed a higher standard of exhilaration masking the madness that divorces ourselves from the denial of empiricism and reason in our quest for modernity. So, our next stop for spills and thrills was Magic Mountain, as we all stared in awe at the technological marvel that was to free our minds from the mundanity of human tragedy and deliver us into a democratization of a digital utopia. In our manifest destiny for enlightenment, we perhaps shackled ourselves into even more suffocating entanglements and vices in today’s undeniable digital psychosis in the human journey of unbridled curiosity to discover the future of tomorrow.

It is this story that is told.
